Seasons of Wellbeing
The timing of reorganization happens in distinct periods or seasons in our lives. As Donald Epstein has developed them, these four seasons are metaphorical of our journey through life and specific situations. Natural development happens with spontaneous movement from one season to another,
though the seasons are not related directly to chronological development. What one is ready to reorganize is connected directly to whatever season in which one happens to be at that moment. How one senses and interacts with one's environment is in large part related to the season of wellbeing she or he is are experiencing.
This is the season in which we first make connections and learn how we have disconnected from the reality of our situations. We learn about ourselves, who we are and how we respond to situations at whatever chronological stage of life at which we may be. The point of this season is to discover how stresses disconnect us and how we can reconnect with peace.
This is the season of action and transformation. Empowered action comes naturally when we are is authentically in the season of Transform. There is a feeling of the inability to catch up or always having to generate more in the face of challenging odds. This feeling is often perceived as exciting, and the energy that it creates is used to motivate massive action. In this season, stress turns from something that burdens us, to something that propels us forward. There are no problems in Transform, only solutions. We transform ourselves through courageous action, and through detaching from ideas and concepts that are no longer useful.
This is the season of conscious being. Having let go of the need to be someone and defend ourselves, it feels as though space opens up to let everyone and everything be as it is. A natural state of ease and grace permeates the experience of life, while trust and gratitude are the predominant experience. We claim a new life that is consciously chosen to express and support love, contribution and community, while feeling gratitude for everything we once perceived as good or bad.
In this season, we move freely back and forth between different seasons, blending them as we desire to create the best outcome for ourselves and the community. Revisiting an earlier season while maintaining perspectives from a subsequent season allow for new experiences of the wisdom of that season. Our true style and individuality shine through both in expression and experience.
While there is a general progression through the seasons with respect to a certain issue, we are always moving back and forth between all the seasons. Each time we experience a season, we gain more wisdom and develop strategies to live and succeed in that season. As we do this more and more, the later seasons become more sustainable in our lives. The most important thing is that we work with the principles of Reorganizational Healing in the season in which we are actually living, rather than the one to which we habitually default, or the one in which we might aspire to be.
